17-18 Season

We are so excited about our upcoming season for 2017-18.

First, we return to downtown Fort Myers where we will produce Barry Cavin's "Writing Shadows" at the historic Langford-Kingston Home. We are grateful in partnering with the Uncommon Friends Foundation, as they are hosting us at this signature home built in 1921. "Writing Shadows," aptly, is a re-imagined (with the usual Ghostbird touch) conjuring by spiritualist Pearl Curran, who a century ago became famous as a vessel of Patience Worth, writing poems, plays, and even novels. Come to our show, if you dare, to hear Pearl spin new stories with her sister attendants. Show dates are November 3, 10, 17, & 24.

Ghostbird next will partake in a little guerilla theatre, mounting Samuel Beckett's "Catastrophe," a short play written in honor of Czech dissident playwright Vaclav Havel. This twelve minute work captures directorial hell, and naturally, it's a comedy. This free event will take place January 4 & 5, but the exact time and place won't be disclosed until the last minute.

We are happy to be returning to the Koreshan State Historic Site in Estero, where we enjoyed our largest audiences for "The Perfect Island of Dr. Teed." In February 2018, we will mount "The Festival of the Spheres," a Ghostbird update of the historic procession and skits that the members of the Koreshan Unity performed for the community in the 1890s. We'll be performing exactly where the Koreshans did, and you'll be occupying the same space as residents of Lee County did all those years ago. Cyrus Teed may or may not be making an appearance.

We close the season on February 18 with the 11th Annual 24-Hour Festival, again hosted by the good people of the Sidney & Bern Davis Art Center. Visual artists, performers, musicians, poets, dancers, actors, and filmmakers are all under the gun, creating original works within a 24-hour time period, competing for $500 awards for best visual art, live performance, musical performance, and film. Come join us for this free and open celebration of creativity in our community.

We are grateful that our season is supported, in part, by the Florida State Division of Cultural Affairs, the City of Fort Myers, and the Lee County Tourist Development Council. We also thank Tera Miller and the Uncommon Friends Foundation, Jim Griffith and the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, and the Koreshan State Historic Site for allowing us to use their home as our temporary home.
