Ghostbird Theatre Company is proud to announce our line-up for the 2018-19 season. Look for us at new venues as well as a couple of old favorites.
Our first production is set for ArtWalk night, Friday, October 5th at the Franklin Shops in downtown Fort Myers. We are creating an installation/performance piece, Windowstories. Our roots tap into performance art, and we look forward to playing in the storefront window space of this elegant, deco-touched building.
In Novemeber, we return to the Happehatchee Center in Estero, where we will mount Barry Cavin's trilogy of brief plays, Boxes Are For What We Keep. These three inter-related plays explore how we treasure and box away what is precious, but which we also may be trapped and repressed. We may open those boxes to expose chaos, or perhaps love. There will be a short promenade to the Peace Pavillion, where the play takes place, a kind of a screened-in box itself. Join us in this magical place, in this magical moment of real twilight.
Our January production lands us at the site of the historical Atlantic Coast Line Railway Depot in downtown Fort Myers, what had been transformed into the Fort Myers Historical Museum, but has been lovingly restored and imaginatively expanded as the Southwest Florida Community Foundation Collaboratory. We will present James Brock's original play Everyone on this Train. This play, crossing generations and continents, brings together the fates of five characters, where we realize how we are all on this train together, for good.
We bring back the annual 24-Hour Festival in March, to our old home of the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, in this celebration of local creativity. Come watch and enjoy your neighbors race against the clock to produce new artworks, performances, songs, poems, and film, competing for $500 awards in four separate categories. We are thrilled that we can once again provide this creative outlet with our good friends at The Davis. This event is free and open to the public. Why free? It's how we roll sometimes.
We may have an additional surprise later in the Spring. Shhhhhhhhh!
This year, we wish to thank the City of Fort Myers and the Lee County Tourist Development Council for grants that enable us to keep our ticket prices low, to pay all our artists a modest stipend, and to market our efforts for locals and visitors alike.
